Colour Trends

The world of colour is an exciting one! It creates style, livens up your home and can add your personality to a project.  Keeping up with colour trends are important too if you want to keep your home or project looking modern and in keeping with today’s look.

2021 colours update…

A warm and comforting colour palate comes in for 2021. We’ll definitely see more earthy tones and neutrals like warm taupe, beige, sand, browns, rust, wine, golden yellows, along with elements that are inspired by nature, botanical greens, sage and sky blues. Neutrals are softer undertones of white and can be the mainstay of walls and furniture still allowing you to add on trend statement-pieces, art and colour to define your own flair and personality.

Dark blue as the new black which proved popular in 2020, continues to take center stage creating elegant and contemporary spaces throughout the home.  From Scandinavian inspirations, light woods will be on trend used not only for flooring but also for covering walls and ceilings.

Bolder colour choices are becoming popular for smaller spaces like bathrooms, laundry, media and dining. We eagerly awaited Pantones’ 2021 colour of the year announced early December, which is Ultimate Grey and Illuminating Yellow bringing fun and sophistication to the home… early selections from Pantone’s Spring/Summer palate are fun-filled with Marigold, Cerulean blue, Rust, Illuminating yellow, and buttercream.  According to Sherwin Williams, paint industry experts , “bold blues, muddy greens, muted reds, bright pinks, and warm whites” will soon be showing up everywhere.

2020 colours update…

2020 is moving slightly away from the cooler neutrals and heavy grey on grey monochromatic schemes of the past decade.  Neutrals are softer undertones of white and can be the mainstay of walls and furniture still allowing you to add on trend statement-pieces, art and colour to define your own flair and personality.  A warmer palate of beige, earthy tones, shades of chocolate , saffron, wine, deep blues and botanical greens like eucalyptus now take center stage.  Bolder colour choices are becoming popular for smaller spaces like bathrooms, laundry, media and dining. Classic blue…pantones’ 2020 colour of the year a form of cobalt will add sophistication in the home.

Burnt yellow will also feature strongly in statement ways. A great way to apply these brighter colours is 90% white 10% colour injection or layers of the same family of colour along with tonnes of texture!
